If he thought he would retire by 2008, then how does he expect to be President of the United States until 2013? April 27 Death and FriendshipsA dear friend and very influential person in my life died April 11th. Today was her memorial and a chance to reconnect with my friends that I have lost touch the past few years. I have posted some pictures at http://waidhere.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!B56799958BD8D618!396/. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ While her obituary is online, here is a local copy of the Seattle Times entry (http://www.legacy.com/nwclassifieds/DeathNotices.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=107954777) Helena M. "Nickie" Christiansen Helena M. "Nickie" CHRISTIANSEN August 23, 1926 ~ April 11, 2008 Nickie was born in Saskatoon,Saskatchewan, Canada. She and her mother later moved to Vancouver, B.C., where she married and had her first son, Guy Middleton. That marriage later ended. In 1963, Nickie and Guy happily created a family with Thomas Christiansen. Later that year, the family immigrated to the U.S. and welcomed the birth of a second son, Kim. After Nickie retired from the UW Department of Pharmacy, she and Tom enjoyed retirement together and were inseparable until his death in 1998. After selling the family home in Mountlake Terrace in 2002, Nickie moved to Chateau at Bothell Landing. In 2006, she moved to Angel Care Adult Family Home in Lake Forest Park. She has been slipping away for the past few years and finally gave up her struggles with the creeping fog of vascular dementia. Her children, Guy Middleton of Everett, and Kim and Tina Christiansen of Shoreline, will miss her greatly, but they will remember her laugh and how much she loved them. She will also be mourned by cousin Diane Minty in England and a host of friends. Many thanks to Maggie, Al and the staff at Angel Care for the tender care they have provided. A Memorial Gathering will be held at Kim's house, Sunday, April 27 beginning at 2 p.m. Details posted at http://web.mac.com/imtinac. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the National Stroke Association, www.stroke.org. Goodbye Mom. We hope you caught up with all those words you lost. Everett Herald online obituary http://www.legacy.com/HeraldNet/Obituaries.asp?Page=Notice&PersonID=108039191 January 01 It's New Years day. Yeap, a couple of resolutions!A couple of friends (RL here folks - just not make believe online friends) have made some enties in their blogs that strike close to home.
The first one by t3chdiva (http://techdiva.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!A95B8F2F272033CA!352.entry) covers one of the most popular New Years resolutions (well two of them really) - quiting smoking and the battle of the bulge. While I quit smoking a long time ago (Ronald Reagan was president), I too battle the demons of too much easy food combined with flying a desk. While I am not prone to jump on the diet wagon, I am taking up "meal tracking". Meal tracking is honestly recording everything you eat and drink - then calculating out the water, calories, sodium, fat, protein and fiber intake. My basic guidelines are 1500~1700 calories a day, 64 oz of water, 150 grams of protein and 1000 mg of sodium. When I don't meal track, I run 2000~2500 calories a day and my sodium is over 2500 mg a day. While I am not focused on dieting when I meal track, I find that I do adjust my intake as I become aware of just what I am eating.
The second one by tom mccleery (http://tommccleery.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!6831ED254133FC0C!239.entry) also speaks to me. I do a miserable job of staying in touch with my family - regardless if they are only 40 or 2500 miles away. I have a couple of ideas about this - first is to use the spaces site on a more regular basis (nothing like daily, but weekly should be doable) and the second idea is to join a "365" group on http://www.flickr.com. This will give me a way to open up more via my pictures with my family (in addition to more regular blog posts) and also it will put me on the spot light regarding watching what I eat.
I am joining the http://www.flickr.com/groups/365days/ self portrait group in addition to my meal tracking. I want to see how I change over the year. Nothing like pictures to hold yourself honest
